The Fifth World Water Forum will be held in Istanbul in March 2009. A few months prior, the Fondation Chirac, Unesco and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) are organizing “L’Eau pour la Paix, la Paix pour l’Eau” (Water for Peace and Peace for Water). This conference on water resources will be held Thursday, November 13, 2008 in Paris.
Jacques Chirac; Koïchiro Matsuura, Director General of Unesco; and Jean-Michel Severino, Director General of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) will attend.

The conference has established three goals, designed to prepare for the Fifth World Water Forum:
1. encourage the application and adoption of international and regional legal instruments to encourage cooperation
2. participate, through recommendations, in the political process of the Istanbul Forum
3. inform the public about political and armed tensions linked to water and its access in regions of heightened instability and conflicts
