The Assaut Vert, the ecological association of the National Superior Architecture School of Versailles (ENSA-V), is launching the national contest A’Bois. It will be open to architecture, landscaping, and engineering students. This contest, supported by the Fondation Chirac and the ATIBT, involves the design of a model house made from certified wood in the Congo Basin. This contest will take place in three different stages:
– Official event launch: Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the Maison de l’Architecture en Ile-de-France
– Training for the candidates: Friday, March 11, 2011. The day will focus on certified tropical wood, its technical implementation and habitat in the Congo Basin.
– The Festival “Le Vert, ça y est !”: May 2 – 6, 2011 at l’ENSA-V.
While raising students’ awareness on certified wood, the importance of its sourcing, and good forest management for the future of our planet and ecosystems, this project aims to offer an ecological alternative that is financially viable.
Through this contest, the Assaut Vert is taking to the next level the project that was launched in September 2010 at the initiative of the Fondation Chirac, the Ministry of Culture and Communication, and the FFEM to raise awareness amongst architecture students on deforestation and on the use of legal and certified timber.
Conferences on deforestation and its consequences are being organized in the 20 National Superior Schools of Architecture and are given by Emmanuelle Grundmann, primatologist and author-reporter. To see the calendar of upcoming conferences click here.
