Thus, from October 24 to 25, 2011, in Niamey (Niger), and under the patronage of President Mahamadou Issoufou, a conference was organized by the Institute of Research and Development (IRD), the Pan-African Agency for the Great Green Wall (APGMV), and the Center for Strategic Studies and Management Science. Its aim was to propose and support recommendations that enable sustainable, fair, and equitable development and, through institutions, agencies, and states, influence ongoing and emerging political and economic processes.
This text, with 22 recommendations, will now be sent to the preparatory committee for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio +20, in June 2012.
All the recommendations can be regrouped under three main axes:
– Strengthen governance and sustainable development in drylands.
– Encourage international cooperation
– Improve scientific cooperation, capacity building, and technology transfer.
