From Dhaka to Durban, the climate in question
The COP 17 will be held in Durban – South Africa from November 28 to December 9, 2011. See the AFD’s website on the history of COP and the challenges of Durban.
The United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, opened the proceedings with a speech in which he called on the richest and most polluting States to follow the example of certain vulnerable countries, such as the Maldives, who have begun “green growth”.
In addition, Ban Ki-Moon, while relaying the main conclusions of the IPCC report, to be rendered public Friday, November 18, invited these same richest countries to meet their commitments. The most notable being the one taken at the 16th Conference of the Parties in Cancun in 2010 to launch the Green Climate Fund: a fund dedicated to help the poorest and most fragile to fight against climate change. He also called on them to adapt as quickly as possible to limit the impact of these changes.
