Whether it is the annual Prize for Conflict Prevention; high-level advocacy carried out by the Fondation for the effective recognition of fundamental human rights; or the Fondation’s four programs dedicated to access to water and to sanitation, access to health and quality medicines, access to land resources, and the defense of cultural diversity; all these actions are rooted in the commitments of the former President of the Republic.
Henriette Martinez and Professor Marc Gentilini bore witness to the role and position occupied by the Fondation Chirac on issues of development aid, particularly in Africa. They also attested to the Fondation’s image on this continent and for its leaders. The participation of Alain Juppé, recent member of the Prize Jury, was the visible proof of his support of the Fondation. He emphasized the relevance of the choice, made by the Fondation’s heads, to focus on advocacy in Africa and more particularly, the countries of the Sahel. François Baroin hailed the quality of the Prize for Conflict Prevention and the choice of its laureates.
The meeting reiterated the breadth and depth of President Jacques Chirac’s mobilisation to implement airline ticket taxes, which have generated over $ 1 billion. It also underlined the fact that the Fondation Chirac’s efforts are eagerly awaited in terms of innovative financing, defending Francophonie, the influence of France in Africa, and development and peace in the Sahel region.
