- VIPPS program:
In response to the growing concerns about the security of online pharmacies, the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) created in the spring of 1999 the Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites (VIPPS) program. The system offers accreditation to online pharmacies who respect the laws in force in the States where they sell their medicine. It also considers other criteria such as the privacy concerning information offered by the patient and the possibility for patients to obtain real consultations with a pharmacist.
Accredited online pharmacies display the VIPPS logo on their websites with a direct link to reliable information on the pharmacy.
Furthermore, to check if a site has earned the “VIPPS” accreditation, all you need to do is to go to the VIPPS website and enter the address of the pharmacy.

- Domain name “.pharmacy”:
In order to guarantee safe, reliable and legal access to online pharmacies throughout the world, the NABP has announced the creation of the domain name “.pharmacy” that would be proof of safety. Pharmacies wishing to register under this name must first submit to an inspection by the NABP to ensure their compliance to national and international laws. Pharmacies that have already obtained VIPPS accreditation can register more easily.
