Sorosoro at the UNESCO to support linguistic diversity

Next February 21st, the UNESCO celebrates two events: the tenth International Mother Language Day and the end of the International Year of Languages. That’s why the UNESCO organizes conferences and meetings on February 18th and 20th to enhance actions in favor of linguistic and cultural diversity. Among its guests during these days is Rozenn Milin, Sorosoro Program Director at the Fondation Chirac.

At UNESCO headquarter, on February 18th, Rozenn Milin will speak during a round table organized by the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on “Indigenous Languages: worldviews, globalization, development and peace”. The aim is to debate on the creation of a new international legal instrument to protect endangered languages and indigenous languages.

On February 20th, Rozenn Milin will speak again at the UNESCO headquarter within the context of International Mother Language Day. During this day, the UNESCO wants to show the results from the International Year of Languages, among which is the Sorosoro Program, launched on last June at the Fondation Chirac.

Many other events will take place all along this day devoted to International Mother Language Day: the presentation of the Third Edition of UNESCO Atlas of the World’s Languages in Danger, a report on the International Year of Languages, a round table on “Languages matter for communities – the way forward”, the Design 21 Prize award for the International Mother Language Day poster and the projection of the film “The Linguists” and a discussion with Film Director and Producer Daniel Miller.
