On February 21, during Unesco’s International Mother Language Day, different foreign media interviewed Rozenn Milin, Program Director for “Sorosoro, so the languages of the world may prosper!”.

In Europe, Germany’s main press agency, DPA, held a lengthy interview with Rozenn Milin. The dispatch covered all aspects of the issue of cultural diversity in the world and underlined the fact that Sorosoro’s work complements programs undertaken by linguists and UNESCO. Endangered languages, filmed by Sorosoro teams, will be the basis of a Digital Encyclopedia of Languages Rozenn Milin specified, which in turn will become a Language Television on the Internet. Thus, “the filmed languages will be available for posterity” underlined the journalist.

The dailies Der Standard and Mitteldeutsche Zeitung explain how Sorosoro operates: filming the daily lives of populations, whose languages are in danger as well as listening to them tell their own stories, mythologies and folktales.

Canada’s daily, Le Devoir, described the Fondation’s cultural diversity project. In a long article, Fabien Deglise retraces the origins of the project and Sorosoro’s goals: “the linguistic rescue plan at the heart of their efforts goes further than an encyclopedia and a television for it places itself within a development perspective,” explains the journalist.

In Latin America, the Argentinean daily, La Gaceta, and the Mexican newspaper, la Jornada, each devoted an article to her. In “El 96% de las lenguas de todo el mundo es hablado por solo el 4% de la humanidad” (la Gaceta), Rozenn Milin talks of the very real threat to the majority of the 6 000 languages in the world. They could all disappear without leaving a written trace and therefore vanish utterly from our collective memories. This is why, she goes on to explain in “Atlas mundial de lenguas en vías de extinción”, (la Jornada), “when a language dies, its culture and traditions disappear with it”. This is why Sorosoro’s work is of such importance for it allows at the very least to preserve this cultural and linguistic heritage.

As for the radio RFI, on March 5, 2009 it devoted an entire show to endangered languages: “Lenguas en peligro en el mundo”. To illustrate the theme, the journalist chose several initiatives in the struggle to protect this human heritage. Sorosoro was among the chosen programs and Rozenn Milin went on the air to describe its activities.

As for the press agency, Prensa Latina, it announced as early as February 12, 2009 that Rozenn Milin would participate in the forum “Autochthonous Languages: cosmovision, globalization, development and peace” organized by UNESCO’s Non-Aligned Movement.
