In October 2010, once their theoretical training was complete, ten students from the third year Mungulu class (the name of the traditional Pygmy house made from Marantaceae leaves), accompanied by two members of the TFT, participated in a ten day field internship in the Camerounian and Congolese forests.
This internship allowed the students to meet the main forest actors in eastern Cameroon and the north of the Republic of the Congo. During this trip the theoretical knowledge acquired at the center in Yaounde, was put to the test with the realities of forest management.
From October 1 – 10, 2010, the students met the private sector while visiting four FSC certified forests:
– Mindourou, of the Alpicam-Grumcam Group,
– Ndeng, of the Decolvenaere Group, Cameroon,
– Lokomo, of the Vicwood Group,
– Pokola, of the Congolaise Industrielle des Bois (CIB).
The students we able to meet with not only the management of each forest site, but also some of the employees. To complete their trip, the students met with forest administrations, partner organizations (local and international NGOs), and local populations. They were also able to get a complete tour of the Biso na Biso radio station.
