“Amazonie, l’ultime frontière”
Rio + 20 is a global event focusing on sustainable, environmentally conscious, and socially equitable development as well as on the living conditions of populations. It will bring together over one hundred heads of state, and will, among other things, be an opportunity to revisit the issues addressed in this film, visible in full until Tuesday, November 8 on the France 5 website.
The documentary examines the phenomenon of deforestation, encouraged by economic pressures, that has plagued the Amazon rainforest since the 1970’s and the resulting damage. An unparalleled biodiversity has been harmed and the existence of indigenous peoples endangered.
“Amazonie, l’ultime frontière” also relates how the Brazilian state and its people have gradually realized just how it urgent it has become to fight to preserve a territory that is the focus of divergent, sometimes opposing, interests. The emergency has been precipitated notably by climate change.
